Madison County (WSYR-TV) -- A task force in Madison County is making a plea to the governor, calling lawmakers back to Albany to pass a law about bath salts.
In a letter addressed to the governor, the task force says hospital staffs and first responders are inundated with bath salts incidents and they say it’s straining their budgets. They also say it’s keeping them from their duties to help other citizens.
Currently, there is only a Federal law and a recently enacted public health law when it comes to bath salts.
The task force wants more. They say a law needs to be passed that would put bath salts on the same level with other controlled substances. They’re also asking for funding to research the impacts of the drug and to find out how to treat users.
The Madison County Bath Salts Task Force is made up of law enforcement, health personnel, school superintendents, the district attorney and other local officials.
