Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A man accused of arming himself with a shotgun and setting off an hours-long standoff in Syracuse’s Eastwood area has been indicted on felony charges.
Daniel Duhamel was indicted on one count each of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and menacing in the second degree.
In November, police responded to a shots fired call from Duhamel’s apartment on James Street near the corner Walter Avenue, just before midnight.
Police say the suspect was arguing with a roommate and fired a shotgun. The slug went through the ceiling and into a neighboring apartment. Police said the shotgun slug narrowly missed a neighbor.
According to police, the roommate ran from the residence and called 911.
When police arrived, Duhamel refused to leave the house. Police called SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation team.
Police evacuated some neighboring residences and a reverse call system was used to warn neighbors to stay inside.
After several hours, a police negotiator convinced Duhamel to surrender.
Police say they found at least one gun in the residence.
