Geddes (WSYR-TV) – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection to a shooting incident that left a town of Geddes man in critical condition.

According to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Thomas Devine Jr. and his friends were “playing around” with a rifle when he was shot at his Grand Avenue home.

Sheriff’s Deputies say that witnesses told them Devine and his friend, 20-year-old Michael Hallock, were pointing firearms around the apartment and also at one another.

They say that shortly before 1 a.m., Hallock fired a rifle while it was pointed directly at Devine’s chest.

The injured man’s friends immediately called 911 and he was taken to Upstate University Hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office does not believe Hallock was intentionally trying to shoot his friend, but that the conduct was criminal based on the recklessness of the actions.

Hallock was charged with assault in the second degree, a felony.

He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree after investigators discovered that he had metal knuckles and a metal knuckle knife.

The weapons charge is a misdemeanor.

Hallock was scheduled to be arraigned in Town of Geddes Court on Tuesday afternoon.
