Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A man from the town of Clay who fled the United States with his daughter will spend the next two and a half years in prison.

In August, Jeffrey Shipman admitted that in 2007 he left the U.S. with his then 3-year-old daughter, flying her from New York City to London with the intent to obstruct the mother’s parental rights.

On Friday, he was sentenced in Federal court to 30 months in prison and one year of supervised release.

He took the child around the world for four and a half years after leaving the country. After first going to England, he took her to Germany and France and then Thailand.

Shipman surrendered to the authorities in Bangkok in February 2012.

The child has been reunited with her mother in Salina.
