Rome, New York (WSYR-TV) - A 22-year-old Rome man was killed in a one-vehicle crash early this morning along Route 49 in the City of Rome.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office says Timothy Nicholas was driving his 1998 Pontiac eastbound on Route 49 when his vehicle skidded across the center lane, went into the oncoming lane, then off the north shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle hit an embankment, went airborne, and crashed into the front yard of 4197 Route 49, according to deputies.

Nicholas was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
