HOMER, NY (WSYR-TV) - 62-year-old Joseph Thomas of Homer was arrested for shooting and injuring his neighbor’s dog.

Thomas lives on West Scott Road and admitted to police that he shot the dog with a pellet gun on July 18th. He faces one charge of Cruelty to Animals.

Thomas was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Homer Court on August 2nd.

Thomas could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $100,000 if convicted.

The Cortland County SPCA says the dog is recovering.

"The dog is doing good. Fortunately for the dog and the individual that shot the dog, it wasn't a matter of serious injury or death. It easily could have been either one of those,” said Cortland County SPCA Chief Investigator William Carr.
