MUNNSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a suicidal man survived jumping off a 60-foot ledge after driving his pickup truck into a central New York ravine.

State police tell the Oneida Daily Dispatch that troopers responding to a report of an accident Tuesday in Madison County found the truck about 40 feet down a ravine in the village of Munnsville, 30 miles east of Syracuse.

Police say the driver, a 52-year-old man from Stockbridge, was spotted on a nearby ledge. Family members arrived and tried to talk to him, but he jumped off the ledge, landing in a shallow creek 60 feet below.

It took emergency crews nearly two hours to reach the man and hoist him out of the ravine.

His name hasn't been released.

He was taken to a Syracuse hospital. Information on his condition wasn't available Wednesday morning.
