SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - Siri the elephant helped with a marriage proposal at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo on Saturday.

With the couple standing just feet away, Siri carried a sign that asked Anna Deetz to marry Andrew Boetsma of Camillus. Deetz, who lives in New Jersey, was visiting her boyfriend for the weekend.

Deetz told NewsChannel 9 that she needs new glasses, and at first could not read the sign very well.

"I didn't really know what was going on until I turned around and I saw him down on his knee, so, I'm still a little bit in shock,” said Deetz.

"I've always wanted to,” said Boetsma. “I’ve been thinking about it for years, how to do it, because I’ve always been big on surprises. And I know I always wanted to do it at a zoo.”

Deetz says the engagement ring also has sentimental value as it belonged to her grandmother.
