Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Thousands of children are expected to turn out for the annual Youth Day Barbecue put on by Mary Nelson.
This is the eleventh year of the event, which will be held on Saturday, August 18.
Thousands of backpacks will be donated to children to make sure that all kids have what they need as they head back to class in the fall. There will also be food and entertainment for all.
The event is free and starts at 11 a.m. at the corner of South Salina and Wood Avenue, and will go on until 6 p.m.
This year, a dental van will also be stationed at the event to provide free services to kids between one and 12 years of age.
