Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner is firing back after a surprising report in the New York Post.
In the article
, columnist Fred Dicker writes that Syracuse, along with Yonkers and Rochester are “close to bankruptcy” and are looking for what he calls a ‘bailout’ from Governor Cuomo.
Dicker writes that the mayor held secret talks in recent weeks that discussed the possibility of bankruptcy.
But on Monday, the mayors of Syracuse, Yonkers and Rochester said they need to set the record straight.
In a statement, Miner said, “The cities of New York are not seeking handouts…we are trying to address a serious financial problem.”
The statement goes on to say that the budget gaps appearing in the cities are too large to be bridged down within those cities.
