Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - If you're heading to the Syracuse University Commencement on Sunday, you'll run into extra security measures.
You won't be able to bring a bag larger than 10 inches by 10 inches and all bags will be checked by security.
Metal detectors will also be used to scan people on their way in to the Carrier Dome.
SU’s Department of Public safety says it’s taking security seriously in light of recent events like the Boston bombings.
SU deals with crowds upwards of 35,000 people for sporting events. This weekend, they are expecting about 10,000 in the Dome.
Chief Tony Callisto told NewsChannel 9, “Any mass gathering, major event in the country today - people are paying more attention to security measures and we are just trying to apply a common sense approach to what's appropriate and not intrusive.”
People attending commencement should give themselves an extra half-hour to get inside.
This year's commencement speaker is Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times.
You can watch the Syracuse University and SUNY ESF graduation from home on Sunday. We'll be carrying it live our Digital Channel 9.2, Time Warner Cable 890, Verizon FiOS 470 and New Visions 23, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
