LOS ANGELES (AP/WSYR-TV) - Conservative talk show host Michael Savage says he's leaving the airwaves temporarily after scoring a legal victory in a dispute with his employer, Talk Radio Network.
Savage's show aired in Central New York on
WSYR radio at 10 p.m.
Savage posted a message on his website Thursday evening under the headline "Free at Last!" saying he was free to work with any station or network from now on. His attorney Daniel Horowitz says Savage left his show after obtaining a favorable ruling in arbitration Thursday afternoon.
If Savage starts a new show on another radio network, WSYR radio hopes to air that show in Central New York, Operations Manager Rich Lauber told NewsChannel 9.
In the meantime, replacement programming will air in Savage's place. The replacement has not yet been announced.
The magazine Talkers has stated that Savage's show attracted more than 8 million listeners a week, trailing only Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Savage has gained notoriety for offending immigrants and minorities and being banned in 2009 from traveling to England.
An email the Associated Press sent to Oregon-based Talk Radio Network wasn't immediately returned.
Horowitz says Savage has been fighting the network for two years to get out of an outdated contract.
