Steady rain will quickly depart central New York and we will be left with some drizzle the rest of the overnight.  With the heavy cloud cover we expect temperatures to remain mild and hold close to 40 degrees.  That’s warmer than the normal high temperature for mid January!

With the rain from the day moistening the atmosphere over us, we feel it will be a rather cloudy start to the day tomorrow.  We are still thinking that enough dry air will come in during the afternoon to allow for some sunshine. Highs should reach the low, to maybe, mid 50s Saturday.  The record is 57 set in 1932 and should be safe.

A cold front will edge closer to central New York on Sunday.  This will keep our winds out of the south and mild.  In fact, Sunday should be the warmest day of the weekend.
In addition to the warm air, south winds will bring in moisture to the region.  And with the approaching cold front, showers will develop Sunday as temperatures rise into the mid or upper 50s.

Looking into early next week, cooler weather is scheduled to arrive early next week behind Sunday’s frontal passage. As a result, we expect high temperatures return to levels that are closer to reality for this time of year with generally dry weather expected.  Even farther down the pike, there are indications that sharply colder weather may try and move back into the region later next week and beyond.  However, that is many days away and things may change.
