Madison County (WSYR-TV) – According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, five military helicopters landed near Route 31 on Friday morning.

The Sheriff's Office says that the helicopters were flying north from Pennsylvania to Fort Drum when their blades iced over. They attempted to stay in the air until Rome or Syracuse but could not.

No one was hurt during the incident.

The Sheriff's Office assumes the helicopters were from the US Army, but could not confirm that.

The helicopters have left the area since the morning landing.
