Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Mayor Stephanie Miner has signed a new law protecting transgendered people.

Common Council approved the measure last month, which amends the fair practices act to ban discrimination based on gender identity.

Several other cities have passed similar laws and advocates are pushing for related legislation at the State level.
