MEXICO, NY (WSYR-TV) – A sculpture stolen from Mexico Point Park has been found, according to State Police.

A person familiar with the case told NewsChannel 9 the statue was found along a road near the park.

The sculpture is a replica of Joseph Brant, a Native American chief who helped stall British forces during the Revolutionary War.

The 200-pound statue was hand carved out of a tree trunk by Kenvyn Richards. It showed Chief Joseph Brant redirecting British troops towards Oswego so people who lived in what is now Rome could prepare for the invasion of British troops.
