More cats being gathered at West Beard Place home
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Animal-control crews plan to return to a West Beard Place home to remove more cats as a hoarding case that grew out of control continues to be a problem.
It’s been two weeks since the situation became a public concern. Some 70 cats were discovered in the residence at 111 West Beard Place. Several were diagnosed with leukemeia and AIDS and had to be euthanized. Many more were rescued.
In its continuing effort to round up the animals, the SPCA has been challenged by the fact that many of the cats are feral. In addition, they say the structure itself is not sound.
“It’s tough when you get there and they’re going in and out and they’re very feral and you know they run from you and they hide,” said SPCA Animal Cruelty Investigator Paul Morgan. “The other big problem is that the structure…you know it’s not a very good structure so…it’s not strong enough and it’s starting to be a problem…places for the cats to hide and so forth. So it’s become an issue.”
