Sullivan (WSYR-TV) – State Police seized more than 65 guns and arrested two people after searching a residence in Madison County on Wednesday.
According to State Police, they found five handguns, and more than 60 assorted rifles, shotguns, and black powder rifles, along with ammunition, at the home at 7800 Black Creek Rd., Kirkville.
They charged 55-year-old Edward Atkins Jr., who lives at the residence, with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony, along with misdemeanors including possessing five or more firearms and criminal possession of a weapon.
State police investigators describe Atkins as a gun collector and many of the guns seized Thursday were antiques or hunting rifles.
In addition, they charged him with possessing a rifle after being convicted of a felony. Police noted that such a charge is very serious.
He was arraigned in Town of Sullivan Court and taken to the Madison County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
At the same time, police charged Dawn Moyer, 39, of 106 Harrington St., Mattydale, with hindering prosecution in the second degree, a felony. Police say she removed evidence from the residence at 78000 Black Creek Road.
She was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Sullivan Court. She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 23.
