Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The New York Air National Guard says that roughly 200 members at Hancock Field will be furloughed as the federal government shut down after Congress failed to reach a settlement.
The Public Affairs’ Office said the 200 members are technicians that are considered “civilian federal employees” or non-active duty members.
Congress was unable to strike a deal before midnight, the deadline for the federal government shutdown.A bill was passed before the deadline that will allow military pay in the event of the shut down
Contractors for the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security were mentioned in the legislation.
It is unclear yet if this indicates if the technicians at Hancock Field will be furloughed or not.
We have reached out to the New York Air National Guard for confirmation and are awaiting word.
