NYS Education Department to eliminate some standardized tests
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The State Education Department says it will eliminate some standardized tests in public schools.
In a letter sent to superintendents, Education Commissioner John King said “a variety of pressure may have hurt instructions.”
King told superintendents that the first goal is to eliminate double testing for eighth graders.
The first test that will be targeted will be an eighth grade math test, which is taken at the same times as a federally required standardized test in math.
Students taking accelerated math now take both the Regents algebra exam and the federally required eight grade mathematics exam.
