Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- National Grid is putting power outage and storm information in the palm of your hand. The utility company has gone mobile.

Customers can now access NationalGrid.com on their mobile devices. Customers will now be able to get information about service interruptions, check out outage maps, report an outage, check the status of an outage and view restoration information – all on their mobile device.

“So long as you have a mobile device and access to National Grid, you can actually look at outage information on your phone and report an outage as well,” said National Grid’s Virginia Limmiatis.

The mobile site also offers important storm safety tips, frequently asked questions and contact information for National Grid’s customer service team.

The outage maps are compatible with iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows-based phones that use the latest version of Internet Explorer (IE9).

Customers can also opt-in to receive text alerts by texting the word STORM or NGRID to 64743. If you prefer to receive alerts via email, you may also sign up for those.

You can also follow National Grid on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
