SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - An unofficial retirement ceremony was held on Saturday for 87-year-old, US Navy Master Chief Peter Soler of Cicero.

Soler is a World War II and Korean War veteran who enlisted in the Navy in 1943. He retired on his 60th birthday back in 1985 but never had a formal retirement ceremony.

A man with “many stories to tell,” Soler touched on a few of them during the ceremony as the crowd took in every word.

"I want to thank you for taking the time to listen to this old Master Chief,” said Soler.

Master Chief Soler sits on the Navy League National Board of Directors and still volunteers with the Naval Sea Cadet Program.
