MALTA, NY (WSYR-TV) - State Police are investigating a car crash that killed two members of the Navy in Saratoga County.

On Thursday, investigators say 20-year old Joshua Smith was a passenger in a car being driven by 20-year old Joshua Williammee of Texas.

According to State Police, Williammee was on State Route 9 in the town of Malta, driving at a high rate of speed when he went into the median of the roadway and tried to pass another car. While trying to pass, Williammee's Hyundai traveled sideways into oncoming traffic and was hit by another car.

Smith and Williammee were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were stationed in Ballston Spa, NY.

The driver of the other car suffered non-life threatening injuries.

State Police are continuing to interview witnesses and process evidence from the scene.

According to Superintendent Chris Brown, Smith was a graduate of the West Genesee School District.
