New Route 31 in Van Buren reopens after serious accident

Van Buren (WSYR-TV) – A portion of New Route 31 in the town of Van Buren has reopened after a serious, head-on accident Tuesday afternoon.

An investigation revealed that 42-year-old Rhonda Farrar, of Fulton, was driving a 2001 Subaru Forrester on State Route 31 when she struck a 1988 Toyota Corolla, driven by 81-year-old Nellie Morrell, of Memphis.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles, according to State Police.

Farrar was taken to the hospital with a fractured foot. She is currently listed in serious condition, according to police.

Police say Morrell suffered two broken legs, several broken ribs, a broken forearm and a fractured neck. She is currently listed in critical condition at the hospital.
