Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Downtown Dining Week is almost over -- it wraps up Friday night -- but there's a new effort already underway to bring more people to downtown Syracuse.
It's a new ad campaign that started airing this week on TV. It features Armory, Clinton and Hanover Squares and all you can do when you visit downtown.
The ads are fast-paced, and play like a movie trailer for an action movie. Downtown Committee Executive Director David Mankiewicz says it targets a younger audience.
He believes that crowd is the reason many business have moved downtown.
Betty Jacobs, manager at Frankie and Faye, agrees. “It seems like we’re seeing my high school girls coming in and they’re telling their older sisters.”
The city believes it’s also a reason why more developers are moving downtown, too. Mankiewicz says the main reason O’Brien and Gere moved to Armory Square was to attract a younger workforce.
It’s not the only project underway. The Jefferson Clinton Commons are just about done. They provide a mix of retail space and housing.
Mankiewicz hopes that as the economy improves more development will come, especially to Salina Street. He says already, small projects are underway on that street.
