Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The Onondaga County Clerk’s Office is warning you about a new scam. They say it’s a letter or email that looks like an official notice from Washington, D.C., but it’s just a scheme to take your money.

Property owners may receive something in the mail or an email offering a certified copy of their deed for $50 to $85.

The Onondaga County Clerk’s Office says don’t fall for it. They can provide the service for as little as $5, depending on the length of the deed.

If you get a notice like this, contact the clerk’s office or just throw it away.
