North Syracuse volunteer fire dept. awarded $200K in grant money for new safety equipment

North Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- More than $200,000 in federal grant money is on its way to the North Syracuse volunteer fire department.

The money will be used to buy new safety equipment, including 40 new devices to help them breathe when battling intense smoke and flames.

Volunteer firefighters in North Syracuse respond to more than 1,000 calls every year.
