Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Authorities have accused a Manlius nurse practitioner of illegally prescribing drugs to the daughter of former Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine.
Lauren Havens, of Pewter Lane, has been charged with criminal sale of a prescription for a controlled substance, a felony. According to court documents, Havens prescribed for 21-year-old Sara Fine the drug Lorcet – which contains Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen – without proper authorization.
Havens is employed by ENT Facial Plastic Surgery.
In a deposition, Dr. Michael Paciorek of ENT Facial Plastic Surgery confirmed that Havens had prescribed drugs for several individuals, including Bernie Fine's wife Laurie Fine; another daughter, 24-year-old Sheila Fine; and a son-in-law, Quint Streeter, as well as Julie Moreland, Kristen Forte, and Mark Zoli.
The prescriptions were written for Percocet, which contains Oxycodone and Acetaminophen, and Lorcet.
Paciorek said he did not authorize the prescriptions and indicated that none of those named were “bona fide patients” at ENT Facial Plastic Surgery, except for Forte.
Havens has only been charged in relation to the prescription she allegedly gave to Sara Fine.
Fine's lawyer Lawrence Fisher said in a written statement to NewsChannel 9, "Neither Laurie Fine, nor any member of her family, has engaged in any wrongdoing. The Fines are the unfortunate victims of circumstances surrounding this matter.”
