One dead in apartment fire in Rome

Rome (WSYR-TV) -- One person was killed in an apartment fire in Rome Monday afternoon.

Fire officials say they were called to the fire in the 1500 block of Black River Boulevard just after 3 p.m.

The fire was confined to one apartment in the six unit building, fire officials said.

Fire officials say the fire had been smoldering for awhile before it was discovered and rescue crews were contacted.

Once on scene, fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze.

The name of the victim was not released pending notification of next of kin.
