UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - An 18-year-old man who served time in a juvenile detention facility for killing his father five years ago has been arrested in New York City.

Utica media outlets report that Joseph Giacona III of Vernon was charged with attempted robbery in Manhattan this week. Details of the arrest aren't available, but court officials say he was released and is due in court Friday.

Giacona was 13 when he fatally shot Joseph Giacona Jr. in January 2008 as he lay on a couch at their home in Vernon, 30 miles east of Syracuse. The teen was arrested nine months later and charged with second-degree murder. He pleaded guilty in 2009 to manslaughter and spent several months in a detention facility.

Prosecutors said the teen suffered emotional and physical abuse before the killing.
