Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Two Onondaga County brothers have won $5 million playing a Lottery scratch-off game purchased six years ago.

On Tuesday, the Lottery announced that Nayel Ashkar, 36, of Cicero, and Andy Ashkar, 34, of Camillus, claimed the prize on March 1.

Andy Ashkar bought the ticket in 2006, but waited to redeem it because the younger brother was concerned about the negative influence it might have if he did not plan properly before being introduced publicly.

Andy Ashkar also noted that he wanted to share the winnings with Nayel Ashkar in order to show his appreciation.

The ticket was bought at the Ashkar family’s Green Ale Market on East Fayette Street in Syracuse.
