Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The first major tenant to the redevelopment of Syracuse’s Inner Harbor was announced just a couple of weeks ago and now there is a push to make sure local people are hired for the job.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide announced it will bring a hotel to the area.
The Syracuse Industrial Development Agency held a public hearing on Tuesday where they listened to concerns.
The Urban Jobs Task Force spoke at the meeting, making a strong argument for developers to hire people who live in the city.
“We generally agree with the task force that local labor is a priority. It's something that's going be used whenever possible at the Inner Harbor,” said Ben Walsh with the Syracuse Industrial Development Agency. “Ultimately, it's a process, and it's ongoing and we'll continue to have conversations."
The city must wait for an environmental impact statement before it can make any movement on the Inner Harbor Project.
Once it is accepted, the project may begin to move forward.
