Oswego (WSYR-TV) – An Altmar man has been arrested more than three years after a safe was reported stolen from the Oswego County Waste Facility in the town of Richland.

In November 2009, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation when the safe was reported stolen. After they were unable to find a credible suspect, the case was closed. The case was reopened recently when a new suspect was identified.

Sheriff’s Deputies charged Joseph McMullen, 48, of County Route 22 Building 1502, with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, and burglary in the third degree, a felony.

They believe McMullen stole a safe containing cash, punch cards, and residential hauler stickers valued over $11,000.

Sheriff’s Investigators have not recovered the safe.

McMullen was arraigned in Town of Schroeppel Court and taken to the Oswego County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to return to Town of Richland Court on May 17.
