Oswego (WSYR-TV) – A couple in Oswego has been charged with fraud and grand larceny after Sheriff’s Deputies say they pilfered thousands from the welfare system.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office charged John Barlow, 26, and Tara Barlow, 25, with welfare fraud in the third degree, grand larceny in the third degree, and offering to file a false instrument in the first degree, all felonies.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the couple defrauded the system out of $3,294.

Sheriff’s Investigators say the couple, who reside at 149 Parkhurst Rd., Oswego, accepted welfare services after John Barlow failed to report that he was earning income at a job.

They were arraigned in Town of Volney Court.

John Barlow was taken to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or bond. Tara Barlow was released.

They are scheduled to return to court on July 31.
