Overnight air traffic control shifts will stay at Hancock
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The FAA has backed off of a decision to close dozens of airport control towers after midnight, including the one at Hancock Airport in Syracuse.
Those overnight shifts were targeted as part of mandatory budget cuts.
Mayor Stephanie Miner had said the closure would have caused significant delays and put thousands of lives at risk.
In a statement issued Wednesday, she applauded the FAA's decision, saying by keeping the midnight shift, it will ensure the safety and dependability of Hancock to the flying public.
