Geddes (WSYR-TV) - A small overnight fire in the State Fair's International Building was caused by an extension cord that overheated, the Fair Director said Tuesday. Luckily, a nearby sprinkler contained the fire.
The fire started at the Sakana-ya vending booth, which offers sushi and Korean cuisine, at around 3 a.m. Tuesday. The extension cord believed to have started the fire was attached to a crock pot.
The fire was quickly doused by the building's sprinkler system, which Fair Director Dan O'Hara said was directly overhead.
Maintenance crews were called in to clean up the water damage.
O'Hara says it is doubtful that Sakana-ya will reopen during this year's Fair.
