Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital received a major donation from a family that knows all too well how cancer can impact a child.

Paige’s Butterfly Run handed over a check for $220,000 from proceeds raised at their annual event. Paige was finishing first grade when she was diagnosed with leukemia and died one year later.

“It's very important for us to give this gift in memory of my daughter Paige, who was a patient here and unfortunately didn't win her battle with cancer, but what we're trying to do with the money we raise each year is to fund pediatric cancer research to help the patients of tomorrow and to fund programs here to help fund the patients of today,” said Chris Arnold, Paige’s father and president of Paige’s Butterfly Run.

Since 1996, Paige’s Butterfly Run has raised more than $1.5 million.
