Manlius (WSYR-TV) – Crews arrived early Tuesday morning to demolish a building in the village of Manlius that had grown into an eyesore.

The house at 301 Pleasant St. had been abandoned for several years and posed a safety risk, according to fire officials. The former dwelling is located in one of the oldest neighborhoods in the suburban village and will soon be home to a park celebrating the village’s history.

“It’s an exciting day for us,” said Manlius Mayor Mark-Paul Serafin. “This is going to be our bi-centennial park.”

The residence was seized by the village because its owner owed back taxes to the municipality.
