Parole officers to keep close eye on sex offenders while children ‘trick or treat’
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Halloween has arrived and while children are walking around neighborhoods Thursday evening collecting candy, they won't be alone. Parole officers say they will be out in full force.
Officers will be making rounds all night, checking in on convicted sex offenders to make sure they are following the law and staying away from children.
Sex offenders are not allowed to hand out candy or wear costumes. They also have to be at home, ready to answer the phone if their parole officer calls.
Fortunately, officers say very rarely do they find a sex offender violating the law.
