Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Part of the Erie Canal will be closed Monday to help remove a hydraulic dredge that sunk there last month.

Starting Sunday night at 10 p.m. the water level between lock E-28B in Newark and lock E-29 in Palmyra will be lowered gradually by about five feet.

Monday morning, the canal will be closed between the two locks and will likely stay closed for several days.

The dredge barge sank June 13th; crews tried to re-float the vessel about a week later, but failed.
