Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Elbridge auctioneer Tim Conroy, who is a familiar face to Your Stories viewers, appeared in Syracuse city court Monday. He’s been arrested three times in the past two months for grand larceny, and now expects to file for bankruptcy.
Conroy is known to Your Stories viewers for selling customers items at auctions and never handing over the proceeds. The auctioneer says he’s not surprised he’s been arrested three times in the past two months for grand larceny.
The District Attorney’s office now has six months to either get a grand jury to indict him or get him to plea.
Conroy’s business has been shut down by the Attorney General's office, so he claims he has no money to pay his customers. Many are getting angry and want recourse.
Conroy and his attorneys are working with the Attorney General's office, but say it appears he will have to file for chapter 11 in the next few weeks in order to reorganize. Conroy owes more than a half-million dollars to customers.
“The next step will be to have someone, an outside accounting firm, handle all the finances, so I will do what I do best, which is identify, find antiques, promote that stuff, let someone else handle all the money, going in, going out,” Conroy said.
If and when money becomes available to start paying customers back, it'll be handed over to the Attorney General's office, which has a running list with dozens and dozens of names on it.
Conroy has been already been arraigned in Cayuga County court and the Town of Morrisville on similar charges.
Although we’ve been following T.W. Conroy for two years, charges have surfaced now because customers had waited months – if not years – to hear back from Conroy about money they were owed. Recently, some customers simply got tired of waiting, and began filing complaints with police.
