Police: Homicide victim’s 7-year-old son was home during attack
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police say that the 7-year-old son of a man who was killed early Friday morning on West Kennedy Street was home during the incident.
Police are still trying to determine how 65-year-old Jerry Mack died.
They found Mack after responding to a shots-fired call at around 1:45 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that three dark-skinned males entered Mack’s residence in the 200 block of West Kennedy Street and attacked him.
They believe the suspects were trying to rob the Mack.
Police say the man’s son was home during the incident but was picked up by a “good Samaritan” and taken to his grandmother’s home.
The police are hoping the person who helped Mack’s son will talk to them.
"If there's anyone out there or if that good Samaritan hears this, we'd like to talk to that person,” said Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan. “We'd like to know who that person is who picked up this little boy somewhere this morning between West Kennedy and Croton Terrace and then drove the little boy there."
Anyone with information should call the Syracuse Police Department at 315-442-5222. All calls will be kept confidential.
