Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- A woman is in serious condition in the hospital after she was struck by a car while unloading packages from her SUV.

The accident happened on East Seneca Turnpike and Monticello Drive just before seven Monday night.

Police say a 72-year-old man may have suffered a medical condition before his Cadillac sped through someone's front yard and then struck the 41-year-old woman. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman, who hasn’t been identified, has serious spinal injuries, but is expected to survive.
