Police: Waterloo judge attacked outside of courthouse with toilet lid
Waterloo (WSYR-TV) – Waterloo Police are investigating an incident after a judge was reportedly attacked outside of the Village of Waterloo Court.
The judge is recovering from injuries he sustained when he was struck with a toilet-tank lid.
Police say Village of Waterloo Justice Roger Barto was leaving the court house when he was attacked while attempting to lock the door to the building on Wednesday, August 31 at about 10:15 p.m.
The suspect placed an object around Barto’s neck according to police.
After a struggle ensued, police say the suspect grabbed a tank lid from a toilet and struck Barto in the head with it.
The toilet-tank lid was outside the court house because of renovations currently being done in the building.
Barto was taken to Geneva General Hospital before being transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital. Police do not believe Barto's injuries are life threatening.
Police are asking anyone with information on the alleged incident to call (315) 539-2022.
