Van Buren (WSYR-TV) – A Phoenix man is dead after a head-on crash in the town of Van Buren early Tuesday morning.

State Police say that 20-year-old Joshua Menkins was driving southbound on State Route 31 when he tried to pass a tractor trailer near Downer Street and West Dead Creek Road.

When he tried to pass the larger vehicle, however, Menkins’ GMC pick-up truck collided with another truck in the oncoming lane.

Menkins was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The other driver was taken to Upstate University Hospital with multiple lag fractures and internal injuries. Police do not think his injuries are life threatening, however.

Police are still investigating the incident.
