Police make arrest in Wednesday morning bank robbery

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police arrested a suspect in a Wednesday morning downtown bank robbery.

Police say Leonard Stephens, 34, of Canastota robbed an M&T Bank location on South Salina Street around 8:52 a.m.

Stephens allegedly entered the bank and handed the teller a threatening note, then ran out the door on to South Salina Street.

No one was injured during the incident.

After releasing surveillance photos to the media, police immediately began receiving tip calls.

Detectives learned Stephens was at the Western Ranch Motel on State Fair Blvd. in Lakeland, where police took him into custody.

He is being charged with robbery in the third degree and will be arraigned in Syracuse City Court on January 31 at 9:00am.
