Trumansburg (WSYR-TV) – Multiple police agencies launched a manhunt for a Level 2 sex offender on Monday after he allegedly abandoned his monitoring bracelet near a school in Tompkins County on Monday.

Police now believe he has left the area, but warrants are out for the arrest of 30-year-old Shane Jacobs, a resident of Hector in Schuyler County.

Police believe he cut off his bracelet in a home near Trumansburg High School.

Police say he has a history of drug use and is a suspect in at least two burglaries in nearby communities.

They say he may be armed.

According to state records, Jacobs raped a 13-year-old girl in 2001.

Jacobs is a 5-foot-9 white male who weighs 170 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Trumansburg schools restricted access while police looked for Jacobs.
