Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Many New Yorkers are receiving a surprise when they open their envelope anticipating their new registration and window sticker from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Many drivers who recently sent the DMV a check for their registration are instead receiving a note indicating that the documents are marred by a printing defect. They say the registration papers will not be printed for several days.

The agency says renewals were processed, but the letter from the DMV should suffice as proof that the person’s registration is up to date until the proper documents arrive.

The DMV says it has notified all police agencies and courts about the issue. An agency spokesperson says the printing problem has been addressed and anyone waiting for new documents should receive them shortly.
