High pressure from the southern Plains will expand and briefly build northeast into central New York tonight.  That will lead to quiet weather for us tonight and early tomorrow. The next weather system, a cold front, is forecast to impact our weather tomorrow afternoon and evening as it approaches from the north and west.  Right now, we think impacts in Central New York will be for some snow with the front itself during the afternoon. For some, there could even be a quick burst of snow.

Following the front, our winds shift into the west then northwest and areas southeast of Lake Ontario, including Syracuse, will be candidates for more lake effect snow Wednesday night. It looks like the lake effect will be heaviest during the evening when the snows are just north of Syracuse. A shift in winds into the northwest will bring the lake effect into the Syracuse area by later in the evening. Several inches of snow are possible in the lake snows tomorrow night.

Lake effect will weaken late Wednesday night and quickly shift north of Syracuse Thursday.  After that, our weather will be relatively quiet as we head into the weekend.  This will signal a change in the weather pattern in the East, one that will lead to above normal temperatures for the end of the weekend into early next week.  By Tuesday next week we wouldn’t be surprised to see our temperatures rise back into the 50s.
