East Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - After more than 24 hours of steady rain that included an Aug. 22 record four inches on Sunday, several neighborhoods in communities surrounding Syracuse have experienced some flooding or near flooding.

Sunday's rain was the second most to have fallen in Syracuse since 1950.

Franklin Park in East Syracuse was overwhelmed with mud and water on Monday morning.

In addition to creating some safety issues, the rain creates concerns over property damage.

Greentree Drive resident Kathy Case said that over the past several years, the water level on her street has migrated up onto her front yard.

Five years ago, her entire basement was flooded, causing close to $100,000 in damage.

"I've gotten two feet, three feet... When you lose everything you just pray that it doesn't happen again," Case said.

Several years ago, the Town of DeWitt performed a study on how to fix the frequent flooding in the area. Since then the town has tried to use higher ground areas to divert water away from the neighborhood, but Case says it hasn't helped.

Only few roads were reported closed on Monday morning: a small stretch of Route 183 in the Town of Albion north of Route 69 and, in Oneida County, part of Stoked Lee Center Toad in the Town of Lee. In addition, Route 290 from Clemons Road to the Erie Canal was closed in Manlius.
